Because learning is very visual, and some of the things that we remember best are bizarre and interesting, so it’s always important to explore new ways of presenting information. My play is history of science and explores how science thinks and also covers mental health. These are some very overlooked areas of science and there’s a recognised need to discuss things like how science affects us as people. Equipment wouldn’t do that.

Additionally, if I bought science equipment, that may help me, but how would it help you? Some equipment could be used for outreach in schools, and I am working on something to do that with, but I don’t need the funding for that project as it is tied up with other things. Science equipment like machines for analysis can be hugely expensive, first to buy, then to maintain, and £500 wouldn’t go very far with that. I want to make the £500 go as far as possible and reach more people than a new machine would. We have machines already!
