Chemistry. I am a chemist, so I would say this, but this is my case: chemistry lets you do maths, but the maths has a meaning and an application so you can see why this very fancy abstract maths is powerful.

It includes stuff like quantum, which contains bizarre principles like wave particle duality that really make you think.

Chemistry also lets you do writing. I loved describing what things looked or behaved liked and uncovering interlinking bits in the “plots” of the chemical elements.

And it involves practicals, getting to move around and use your hands and make things and see how the stuff of the world around you is built up. Including doing analysis and seeing how something that looks like an oil or a powder is actually fantastically powerful with seemingly invisible useful properties.

Physics and biology have some of these things, but I think they are more focussed on one or another.

Physics because it gives me the technology and machines that allow me to find out what is going on in the chemistry I do.

I like chemistry, find biology interesting but very complicated and love physics because its maths with a purpose.

all of the above! At school I liked physics a lot, but I wanted to do chemistry as it links to both biology and physics and seems a bit more varied.

      Hi Amy,
Oh, that’ll be chemistry all the way…but I also find biology fascinating and I love to know as much about how it works as I can. In fact there is an awful lot of chemistry in biology so I find that of particular interest. I’m afraid I’m not a fan of physics…only because I’m rubbish at it (and there’s lots of maths…bleughh 🙂 ) we can’t be great at everything so you have to find out what you love and what you’re good at…for me, that’s chemistry.
I hope that answers your question 🙂
