      Nope – I went straight on to university. I knew what I wanted to do next and I didn’t know what I wanted to do with a gap year. If I wanted I could have taken one after my degree instead, but I decided to apply for PhDs and see where that got me… here.

      On the other hand, my husband did a gap year and he got valuable job experienced and a published science paper which has helped him get jobs since. He then spent a month travelling round europe after he had worked so he bought himself a big holiday too! He had a deferred university place so he knew where he was going afterwards.
