I had to work academically hard to get the graded but getting a place once I had those was easy. Scientists are under demand! I was very lucky in that I chose the PhD project I really wanted and I got it. 🙂
I worked quite hard at school to get good grades in science so that I could study Chemistry at University, but I enjoyed the work and didn’t find it a chore at all. Getting onto my PhD course was not too difficult, as I did well in my degree, but getting this new Research Fellow position was hard – the positions are quite competitive.
Yes, I enjoyed it, but I had to work hard at school and at university to get good grades – I’m not naturally good at passing exams like some people seem to be (although I bet they work hard too) now I am having to work even harder to get my own funding and set up my own research group, that seems to be the most difficult part so far. I am betting there will be more challenges, but i just deal with them and keep going.
