      For life, well the crystal stuff is probably more vital than the historical stuff, because it could make the difference between a drug being dissolved in the body or not.
      The historical stuff with the books is important from a cultural side, showing how techniques for making pigments evolved through the ages, and how this technology travelled across the ancient world. It links in with understanding where we came from.
