There are force fields that can move objects with no physical interaction, these are electric or magnetic fields, you can use magnetic fields to make magnets float, or even frogs (look it up on youtube). But there aren’t any humans capable of manipulating magnetic or electric fields with their minds or bodies, so telekinetic powers don’t exist. One day we may have much better control of magnetic and electric fields, or maybe even acoustic fields (using sound waves) to move things, we can do it quite easily on the nanoscale, so one day we might be able to move larger things.
I’m not sure what influencing energy is supposed to be, but if it is some sort of psychic power as some of the google results appear to be then I am afraid that there is no evidence of psychic powers. People who believe they are psychic usually just happen to be very perceptive to body language and other signals they may not even be conscious they are picking up. Others who say they are psychic are unfortunately fraudulent and are conning people out of money and play on peoples emotions.
I totally agree with Kieren on this one…there is nothing funnier than watching some delusional person pulling faces like they need the toilet because they think they are going to be able to move a spoon across a table…with the POWER of their mind! Ha!
Have you come across superconductors? They interact with magnets by excluding magnetic fields when cooled to very low temperatures and therefore can hover things. I used to work on superconducting materials. The race is on to make a room temperature superconductor because then these could be applied to make things like MagLev trains at reasonable energy costs (cooling to close to liquid helium is expensive and often requires high pressure which is dangerous, not to mention the cold being dangerous!).
These things are of course not controlled by the human mind, but the human mind can do some incredible things. Under stress, people can do things like lift up vehicles that they shouldn’t be able to because they are too heavy, so whilst they can’t move objects without contact, and people who exhibit “psychic” powers tend to have the other skills Kieren mentions, don’t underestimate what the mind is capable of!
The theory for the levitating frog was done by Professor Michael Berry at the University of Bristol, he won an IgNobel prize for it. (Ignobel prizes are really interesting pieces of science, but very bizarre at the same time)
