There is no structure whatsoever! I can do whatever I like! Some experiments require running for a setlength of time, i.e. 9 hours, 20 hours, 24 hours. If they are in a furnace or oven I can programme it to turn off at the end time, otherwise I have to be there to “take off” the experiment. Sometimes this means going into labs at really odd times like 10pm at night, but I live close by so that’s okay. Mostly I do day long experiments, so I put it on one day and take it off the same time the next, but I get to choose when I want to do experiments at my convenience 🙂 Obviously sometimes I am restricted by other things like meetings or having to book equipment in advance.

No timetables at all- I just try to plan my time so I can get as much done as possible. Some can be done in 20 minutes, others have to be left in an oven for weeks at a time, so it really depends on what is ready when I land each day.

For the books it all depends on what is available at the time and if anyone is there to get it from the safe for me, so I simply worked on whatever turned up.

Not really no…I do try to give myself a rough idea of what I want to achieve on any given day or by the end of the week but there is no set hardened timetable. If I am performing a reaction that has a set mount of time then I do need to make sure the reaction is stopped at a certain time and that is important but most of the time I work at the speed I need to…unless I have a deadline for a presentation of a piece of written work that needs to be handed in.
